Catherine “Cathy” Sweeten
June 24, 1950 – June 2, 2026
It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine (Cathy) Susie Sweeten, who left this world on June 2, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on June 24, 1950, in Oakland, California, to Marion and Alice Lassley, Cathy was the youngest of four daughters. From her earliest days, she carried a gentle spirit—one marked by grace, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved and to the Lord she served so faithfully.
Cathy graduated from Tennyson High School in Hayward, California, and later continued her studies at Jacksonville Bible College in Texas, where her faith deepened and her compassionate heart found its calling. On November 19, 1977, she married the love of her life, Howard Sweeten. The following year, they welcomed their youngest son, completing their blended family of three boys and beginning a lifetime of love, laughter, and shared purpose.
Guided by her nurturing nature, Cathy devoted many years to caring for others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She served with tenderness, patience, and integrity, retiring from Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2017. Her kindness touched countless lives, and her gentle presence brought comfort to those who needed it most.
Cathy is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Charlotte Hone, Nancy Hight, and Juanita Rodriguez; her beloved husband Howard, who passed on February 10, 2008; and two cherished granddaughters, Izabel and Jazmine Sweeten.
In her retirement, Cathy embraced the simple joys that meant the most to her—spending time with friends and family, sharing stories, and teaching her grandchildren how to cook. She had a gift for walking that delicate line between being their confidant and offering loving, steady guidance when it was needed. Her grandchildren will forever remember the warmth of her kitchen, the sound of her laughter, and the comfort of her presence.
Cathy is survived by her sons: Jim Sweeten and his wife Diane; Keith Sweeten and his wife Michelle; and Grady Sweeten and his wife Shell. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: James Jr., Justin, Nick, Katelyn, Jacqueline, David, Annalee, and Howard—each of whom carries a piece of her heart forward.
A viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary in Turlock, California on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow the next day at Turlock Memorial Park on June 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.—a date that would have marked her 76th birthday. We would be honored to have you join us in celebrating her beautiful life.
Cathy’s legacy is one of love, faith, and quiet courage. She leaves behind a family who adored her, a community who respected her, and a lifetime of memories that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
