Gurbakhsh Kaur Uppal September 2, 1942 - May 4, 2026

Gurbakhsh Kaur Uppal
September 1942 – May 1, 2026

Gurbakhsh Kaur Uppal, age 83, of Turlock, California, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a life defined by resilience, devotion, and unwavering faith, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.

Born in September 1942 in Punjab, India, to Jagat Singh and Kartar Kaur, Gurbakhsh was one of seven children in a close-knit family. From an early age, she embodied strength, humility, and compassion—qualities that would shape the way she lived her life and cared for those around her. She completed her schooling in India before beginning a new chapter after marriage, moving to England where she spent 15 years building a home and raising her family.

In pursuit of greater opportunities, Gurbakhsh later immigrated to California, ultimately settling in Turlock, where she planted deep roots in the community. She worked diligently as a production line worker at Foster Farms from 1978 until her retirement in 2007. Her work ethic, perseverance, and quiet determination were admired by all who knew her.

Faith was at the center of Gurbakhsh’s life. She was a devoted member of the Turlock Sikh temple, where she spent much of her time in prayer, seva (selfless service), and community. She found peace and strength in listening to paath and participating in kirtan, drawing deeply from the teachings of Sikhism. Her spirituality guided her actions and inspired those around her to live with kindness, humility, and grace.

Above all, Gurbakhsh treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in the presence of her children and grandchildren, offering them unconditional love, wisdom, and support. Her home was a place of warmth, where laughter, tradition, and togetherness were always present.

Gurbakhsh was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her 3 older brothers and 1 older sister; her husband, Jagtar Uppal; her three sons, Parmjit Uppal, Dharminder Uppal, and Amreek Uppal; and her grandson, Steven Chahal. Despite these profound losses, she remained a pillar of strength for her family, demonstrating remarkable courage and faith.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Manjit Chahal (Binder Chahal), Amarjit Uppal (Kuljit Uppal), Pardip Uppal (Daljit Uppal), and Kashmir Uppal (Vera Uppal), all of Turlock; as well as her brother and sister, and her ten cherished grandchildren. Her memory will live on in their hearts and in the values she instilled in them.

Gurbakhsh Kaur Uppal’s life was a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
