Joann Dobbins, 86 returned to her heavenly home on August 27, 2020.  Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her journey and gave her peace.  Joann was born in Grand Haven, MI, she moved to Modesto, CA in her early 20’s.  Joann’s passions were her faith, her family and her beloved dogs.  Her happiest times were spent in a room full of her children and grandchildren as well as time spent with her beloved bible study group. Joann could often been seen  in her neighborhood out walking with one or more of her dogs.

Joann faithfully dedicated her time and energy for over 25 years to working with the children of Catherine Everett Elementary.  She loved seeing the kids every day and sharing in their lives as they grew.

Joann was loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed.  Joann is survived by her children Linda Wright, Mike Bogren, Mark Dobbins and Jack Dobbins; her grandchildren Kyle Dobbins and Jake and Paige Dobbins, along with her three great-grandchildren, her sisters Ione Wolschleger, Mary Lynne Lautenschlaeger, and Betty Isaacs, along with many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Wayne Dobbins, and her son Joe Dobbins.

I too, am so deeply saddened by the loss of Joanne. My parents were next door neighbors of Wayne and Joanne for about 8 years, until my folks moved a few miles away. They remained friends for years beyond, until my parents passed in 2003 and 2008 respectively. My youngest daughter, during her time at Catherine Everett Elementary School, enjoyed the kindness of Joanne on the playground there. We lived in the same neighborhood too, and it was always a pleasure to see Joanne and her dog Annie walking by. She is missed so much by those of us who had the honor to have known her.

I am sad to just be learning of Joann’s death almost one year later…I was her hairdresser and I loved her like a mother. I saw her every week for 35 years and when Wayne became ill I went to their house and cut his hair every month for 8 years until his death. When she had to leave her home and live at the residential care home I went every week to visit her until Covid hit. the last time I saw her was right before Covid, I took her to get a pedicure and we had lunch. Now that the restrictions were lifted I inquired about her ability to have visitors only to be told to contact her family. With a hopeful prayer I called Jack hoping she had gone to live with his family. Sadly I was informed of her death last August. I am beyond sad to say the least. Looking for her obituary just now I have realized she had a service I new nothing about. I am very saddened by that and there are no words to to express my sorrow. So farewell Joann, I loved you so much. I rejoice that you are sitting at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That you are filled with joy, the joy I have when I think of you.

I worked with Joann for many years at Everett. I don’t recall there being one day when she was in a bad mood-she was always such a positive influence on both staff and students always smiling and laughing! She was a joy to work with and a blessing to know.

    To the Dobbins family,

My Auntie Jo had a laugh that I will never forget. Her laugh makes me smile when I think of her.

I will miss our conversations about Dancing with the Stars. It was our thing.

Joann was the sweetest yard duty at Everett
After she retired it was a fun site to see her out walking her dogs!! I later would take my dog, Dylan and go visit her at Vintage Faire Residential ! RIP Joann – love you!
