In Loving Memory of John Loren Dick
July 23, 1945 – May 9, 2025
John Loren Dick was born on July 23, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and moved to Modesto, California as a young boy, where he spent nearly 70 years. Known for his strength and humility, John lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and faith.
A standout football player at Thomas Downey High School, John went on to play running back for the University of Oregon. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, where he served honorably in the Vietnam War. After his service, John worked for over five decades in the Central Valley’s almond orchards, a testament to his tireless work ethic.
John was a constant presence in his family’s lives, faithfully supporting his wife, children and grandchildren in all their pursuits. He was a proud father to Jennifer (Kirk), Lisa (Michael), Cari (Jon), Danielle & Andrew (Kara), and a loving grandfather to Emma, Lizzie, Lola, Reese, Leia, Taylor, Beau, & was excitedly awaiting another grandson due this June. He is survived by his sister Judy Schmidt, with whom he shared a special bond.
John passed peacefully on May 9, 2025. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and his selfless dedication to serve and provide for his family & friends.
A burial with military honors will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hughson, followed by a celebration of life reception. Flower arrangements may be sent to Lakewood Memorial Park.
