John Matthew Cortez, 37, passed away on December 6, 2025 in Gustine, California, surrounded by his family who loved him beyond measure.
He was born on May 21, 1988 in Santa Jose, Ca and raised in Gustine, Ca where he attended OLM from Pre-K through 8th grade and graduated from Gustine High School in 2006. From childhood through adulthood, John was the kind of person who built deep, lasting connections wherever he went.
John was the beloved son of Gloria Cortez and John Cortez Sr., and the devoted brother of Jamie Cortez and David Ochoa. He enjoyed quality time with family and had a rare ability to make people feel safe, seen, and understood. His hugs were the kind you remembered, his smile could shift the entire energy in a room. He brought humor, comfort and a gentle warmth that stayed with people long after he walked away.
John leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, laughter and love. He will forever be remembered for the softness behind his strength, the way he showed up for others, and the countless lives he touched just by being himself.
A funeral service followed by a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Allen Mortuary, 247 North Broadway, Turlock, California.
