Jose Inacio Azevedo November 18, 1944 - October 12, 2025

Date of Service

November 14, 2025

It is with great love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Jose Inacio Azevedo, who left this world peacefully at the age of 80.

Born in São Jorge, Azores, Portugal, Joe carried a deep pride in his island roots throughout his life. He often spoke fondly of his childhood in the Azores, remembering the beauty of the land and the simplicity of those early years. In 1960, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings, settling in the Central Valley, where he would spend the rest of his life. In his early years there, he worked milking cows before beginning a long and fulfilling career with the City of Modesto, where he proudly served for 30 years until his retirement.

Joe was a man of simple joys. He loved woodworking, tending to his garden, and taking peaceful afternoon drives. He was never in a rush – always content to take his time and appreciate the small, beautiful moments in life. Those who knew him will forever remember his gentle heart, kind nature, and the calm way he moved through the world.

A devoted member of his local AA community, Joe found lasting friendship, support, and purpose among other members. He faithfully attended meetings and lived each day guided by the words of the Serenity Prayer: “Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

Above all, his greatest devotion was to his family – especially his beloved daughter Kimberlee, and granddaughter Hannah, with whom he shared a bond that was unbreakable. His love for them was known by all who crossed his path.

He is survived by his daughter Kimberlee Azevedo, and his cherished granddaughter Hannah, as well as his sister Margaret Dutra and her husband Harold, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Germano and Isabel Azevedo, brothers Albert, Helio, and Fernando, and his sister Mary.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 Carrolton Rd., Escalon, CA. A reception will follow at 813 Edinburgh Dr., Modesto, CA, where family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories.

Joe will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and the gentle peace he brought to everyone who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Once you have submitted your condolence, it will be approved by our staff during office hours, then published on your loved one’s page.
