It is with deep sorrow and enduring love that we announce the passing of Jose Avila, of Atwater, California. A son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Jose passed away on June 3rd, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and generosity.
Born on August 25, 1969, Jose spent his life committed to providing for his family while working in one of his greatest passions—roofing and supervising alongside his brothers. He found fulfillment in honest labor, taking pride in a job well done and the bonds he built through his craft. Whether he was working on his vehicles, doing mechanic work, tending to his yard, or offering his life lessons and telling stories from his own experiences. Jose always had a way of making those around him feel seen and supported.
He loved the thrill of treasure hunting at yard sales and flea markets, negotiating the best deals on unique finds. He had a deep appreciation for muscle cars, adding to his collection of tools, caring for his plants—especially his dwarf orange tree and lemon tree, which he nurtured with pride—and filling his home with music, often singing the same songs he loved time and time again. He could often be found sharing stories, cracking jokes, or offering a helping hand to anyone in need—never asking for anything in return.
Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa; his cherished children, Luis and Joanna; and his loyal granddog, Persephone. His spirit of kindness and strength will live on in them, and in all who had the honor of knowing him.
All who knew and loved Jose are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
A Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Wednesday, June 11th from 5-7pm.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Atwater on Thursday, June 12. The Rosary will begin at 9:30am and the Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00am.
In lieu of donations, the family kindly asks that white flowers be ordered or sent to the viewing.
