Date of Service

March 16, 2026

Luis Machado, affectionately known to family and friends as “Carmona,” passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 87 in Turlock, California.

Luis was born on November 18, 1938, in Porto Judeu, Terceira, Azores. He later made a home in California, where he built a life centered on hard work, family and community. For many years, Luis worked as a dedicated dairy farmer in Elk Grove, California, and surrounding areas, earning the respect of those who knew him through his strong work ethic and humble nature. He later relocated to Escalon, California, in 2004 and eventually made his way to Turlock, California, where he spent the rest of his days.

He shared nearly 47 loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Maria de Lourdes Machado. Together they created a large and loving family who remained the pride and joy of his life.

Luis was a proud father and father-in-law to Ondina Tome (Mike), Linda Jackson (Beau), Luis Machado Jr. (Noelle), Mary Lou Muñoz (Juan) and Angie Machado (Danny Vences) He was also the cherished grandfather to Ashley Keller, Jaycee Schiopu (Austin), Anabelle Figueiredo (Amanda Pacheco), Zoey Figueiredo (Daniel Morgan), Giselle Muñoz, Evalynn Muñoz, Gabriel Muñoz, Julius Machado-Vences, Diana Machado-Vences and Luna Rae Davis.

Deeply connected to his Portuguese heritage, Luis loved attending Portuguese bullfights and festas. His dedication to the community led him to serve as Festa President for celebrations in Elk Grove (1991) and Sacramento (1994), helping preserve traditions that meant so much to him and others. He was also a loyal fan of the San Francisco 49ers and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team or to make fun of whom he saw as their rival – the Raiders. He was also a diehard fan of the Portuguese soccer team of Sporting. You could always find him wearing his favorite team’s gear.

Known for his humor and lively personality, Luis was a natural jokester who enjoyed friendly banter with everyone he met. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures- playing dominoes, drinking a glass of wine, spending time with family and friends and sitting out front of his home watching the world go by.

Luis will be remembered for his warmth, laughter, generosity and the love he shared with those around him. His presence, stories and sense of humor will be deeply missed but forever cherished by his family and all of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 8:30a.m. with the rosary and funeral to begin at 10:00a.m.  Interment will be at Ceres Memorial Park.
