Mae Chaves, 90, of Turlock passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.  She is survived by her children, Paula Chaves Schultz of Turlock, Glenn Chaves (Kim) of Modesto, grandchildren, Shannon Jacobs (Stephen) and Matthew Schultz of Turlock and Lucas Schultz of Sacramento, three great grandchildren, sister Aileen Borges of Turlock, godchildren Sandra Van Meter of Hughson, Lou Borges of Riverbank, Charlotte Souza of San Martin and Barbara Moeller of Hughson.  She is predeceased by husband Manuel Chaves, parents Jose and Mamie Silva and brother, Joseph Silva.

Mae was born in Turlock, California on May 26, 1928 and attended schools in Oakland and Hilmar.  She met her husband Manuel at the scales at Golden State Creamery in Newman where they both worked.  A football bet led to love and marriage.  They were married in 1950 and made their home in Newman.  Mae worked as a bookkeeper for many years and retired from Newman/Crows Landing school district as a food service worker.  She will be remembered by neighborhood trick or treaters for her homemade popcorn balls and trays of cookies for her friends and neighbors at Christmas time.  She and Manuel moved to Turlock in 1991.  They enjoyed traveling and playing cards with sister and brother in law, Joe and Rosie Rodrigues.  After Manuel passed away in 1996, Mae spent time with family, her grandchildren and finally great grandchildren who all loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary in Turlock, Thursday, October 25th from 5 to 7 p.m.  A mass celebrating her life will be held Friday, October 26th, at All Saints University Parish, 440 McKenna Dr. Turlock at 11 a.m.
