Melvin (Mel) A. Mendes passed away on Jan 29, 2023. Melvin was born in Ferndale, CA and moved to Crows Landing in 1947, with his widowed mother and siblings, to continue the family dairy.
Melvin is survived by his children, daughter Catherine M. Mendes and son Manual M. Mendes, both of Crows Landing, his stepsister Louisa Allen of Denair, and stepchildren David (Kelly) Berbereia, Tony Silveira, Manual Silveira and Theresa Gastelo. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Mary J. Mendes, parents Manual and Maria Mendes, siblings Marie Brunner, Manual, Daniel, Evelyn (infant), Joe and Albert Mendes. Many nieces and nephews.
Melvin owned his own business and took pride in this work. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, joking, going to the casino, and watching his western shows. He was a past member of the Turlock Moose Lodge and was a volunteer fireman for the Mt. View Fire Dept.
The viewing will be held Thursday Feb. 9th from 5 to 7 with the Rosary starting at 6pm at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway Turlock.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday Feb. 10th at 1 pm at Sacred Heart Church, 1200 Lyons Ave, Turlock, followed by burial at Turlock Memorial park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd, Turlock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mt. View Fire Dept., 9633 Crows Landing Rd, Crows Landing, CA.
