Ozella Daley June 29, 1931 - December 2, 2020

Ozella Daley

June 1931 ~ December 2020

Ozella was born June 29, 1931 to her parents, Earl and Neva Roberts in Ada, Oklahoma, where she attended school. She later moved to Turlock and graduated from Turlock High School in 1949. She met the love of her life, Wayne Daley, at a local downtown pharmacy when he was a barber (prior to becoming a CHP), and she worked at J.C. Penney. They married on May 14, 1950. They had two children, son, Gary and daughter, Jan.

Ozella worked as an administrative secretary at Chatom School for 27 years. She loved everything about her job!

Together, Wayne and Ozella raised registered angus cattle and enjoyed traveling to Australia and New Zealand, birthplace of Wayne’s father.

Ozella has been described by many as a Proverbs 31 woman! She loved the Lord, and she always placed the needs of others ahead of her own. She had a sweet and Godly spirit and was such an encouragement to others.  She loved her family and friends deeply and she is deeply loved in return. Her most precious times were spent with her kids, grandkids, and great grands! She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Turlock.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Wayne Daley, and son, Dr. Gary Daley, DVM, and her sister, Patsy McElhaney. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Brown (Steve), and daughter-in-law, Nancy Daley;  four grandchildren: Kara Wallnutt (Bryce) of Texas, Derek Daley (Carolyn Silva) of Merced, Dawn Garrett (David) of Colorado, and Marcus Tucker (Charleen) of Turlock; two step grandchildren, Dr. Kaci Kuykendall and Craig Sims; 12 great-grandchildren: Jayden, Andrew, Collin Garrett, Caymus, Isla, Alanna, Olivia, Carson Tucker, Thomas, Mackenzie, Ben Wallnutt, and Adelynn Rose Silva Daley (just born Nov. 13, 2020!); and two nephews: Perry (Elisa) McElhaney of Modesto and Dale (Erma) McElhaney of Turlock.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Nahera Adams and staff, Samaritan Village, and Community Hospice for their amazing care for Ozella.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ozella’s memory  to First Baptist Church, Turlock; Community Hospice; or  Jessica’s House.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Saturday, December 12th.

I was really privileged and blessed to have worked with Ozella for over 20 years at Chatom School. She had one of the toughest jobs in the school district in helping develop the budget. She computed the cost of salaries after negotiations with the unions – sometimes recalculating several times! She printed the agenda for school board meetings and then the minutes. She did all of this while sitting in an open office. She was the first person a visitor would see upon entering the office. She was always pleasant whether dealing with an irate parent or a student sent to see the principal for disciplinary reasons. She was able to calm them down before they came in to see me. 🙂 I remember on the first day of school getting a friendly wave from the smiling driver of a bus that was unloading – who else but Ozella! She could do it all! Her Christian beliefs showed in her day-to-day activities and dealing with others. She was a true blessing in my life.

I remember Mrs. Daley very well, as I was a Chatom student from 63-72. She was always helpful, gracious, and very caring.

How to you describe a saint? she ran the office at a rural elementary school over 30 years, was congenial, professional, but also very personal and caring about each of her faculty members and students and family as well.
Blessings to all her family; she has a star in Heaven.!

I remember Ozella as a sweet Christian classmate at Turlock High, and graduating together with the class of 1949. Ozella was friendly with everyone , and always had a smile for anyone. We will meet again. Peace to her memory.

    Dear Family of Ozella,
I worked one year at Chatom where Ozella was a beautiful, loving and caring administrative secretary. She treated us as her Family of Love. She had a lovely smile that radiated God’s love all around.
May God’s peace surround you, during this pandemic. I send my virtual hug to all.
