Robert Francis Abbott  December 1, 1922 - January 26, 2026

Date of Service

January 30, 2026

Robert Francis Abbott, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 103. Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Madera, Robert’s life was marked by courage, dedication, and love for family.

During World War II, Robert served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rowan. Surviving the torpedoing of his ship, he was one of only 70 survivors from a crew of 274 and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

After returning to California, Robert married Nelly Paz in Chowchilla. Together, they settled in Turlock, where they built a life filled with love and devotion, raising their son, Francisco. Robert was a proud member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was known for his skill and strong work ethic, working on heavy farm machinery. His craftsmanship and ability to fix and build things were admired by all who knew him.

Robert cherished time spent hunting with his son, especially their deer hunting trips, which created lasting memories. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nelly, and is survived by his son Francisco, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many cousins across British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and California.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Madera, California.

Robert’s legacy of resilience, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
