Robert Gooch has passed away at the age of 79. He was born in Stockton, California to Fred and Hattie Gooch and grew up in French Camp, Manteca, and Modesto, California. He attended Downey High School and Hughson High School. He graduated from Goldsboro High School in North Carolina where he lived with his brother Bud’s family. He served in the US Army from 1964-1967 and later the National Guard, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked at Georgia Pacific for over 35 years where he served both as a union leader and shop steward.
Robert took much pride in the service he gave to our country. He loved his daughter and was very proud of his grandsons. He was thrilled when they joined the NJROTC unit at Turlock High School, and he loved hearing about their activities and accomplishments. He enjoyed home cooked meals and reading biographies about military and political figures.
Robert is survived by his daughter Lisa (Robert) Jensen, grandsons Christopher and Jeffrey, nephews John and Earl, nieces Phyllis, Virginia, and Brooke, and many great nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents and his brothers, Fred Gooch and Horace “Bud” Gooch.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 am at Allen Mortuary. Private Interment to follow.
