Thomas was born in San Diego and grew up in Hilmar. He was drafted into the US Army and served during the war instead of pursuing his dream of playing professional baseball. After his time in the service he settled back in Hilmar and began work hauling hay. In 1971 he married Rachel Davenport. Thomas owned his own hay hauler and backhoe before he owned T&T Pipeline for 21 years. His hobbies included fishing, bowling, golf and watching sports; he was an avid fan of the SF 49ers and New York Yankees.
He is survived by his wife Rachel Gomes; children Michelle (Matthew) Blakemore and Thomas Joseph (Melanie) Gomes; four grandchildren William Blakemore, Thomas Gomes, Noah Blakemore and Lucas Blakemore; and sibling Rose Pearson. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Mary Gomes, and siblings Sandra Herin and Gilbert Gomes.
Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 5:00p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:00p.m. Graveside service will be at Turlock Memorial Park on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 11:00a.m. with a reception to follow at Allen Event Center.
