Agnes Bertrand Hopkins was born November 10, 1913 in Wanette, Okahoma.  She married Orville Hopkins in 1934 and they moved to Arizona for a short time and later lived in Turlock for 60 years.  After her husband died, she moved to Yuba City, California to be close to her nephew Raymond Caskey, Jr. and his wife Nell, who had the pleasure of aiding in her care from 2009 until her death.  Agnes lived at the Courtyard Assisted Living and later at the Gardens Memory Care while in Yuba City.

In the 1960’s she worked as a timekeeper and tour guide at the Hume Cannery in Turlock and in the 1970’s attended the Merced Adult School where she studied Home Health Care and Nurses’ Aide Training.

Her hobbies included sewing her own clothes, quilting, knitting, embroidering and crocheting tea towels, which earned first place blue ribbons at the Stanislaus County Fair.  She had many friends, who would get together and can fruits and vegetables and she and her husband loved gardening and growing roses and sharing peaches and apples from their trees with their neighbors.

She and her husband, the late Orville Hopkins, received a plaque from the California State Senate in 2004 in honor of their 70th wedding anniversary.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Orville; siblings Ethel Lairson, Curtis Bertrand, Goldie Whitaker, Emily Scott and Evelyn Abram and her parents Benjamin and Gertie Bertrand.  She is survived by her nieces Dian Campos, Robin Benson, Norma Lairson, Raegina Benson, Michelle Brink and Nell Caskey.
