Pauline Baker was born in 1931 on her parent’s dairy in Bellflower, CA, the seventh child of Charles and Margaret Koelzer.   When she was three, business declined due to the great depression, so her family moved to Turlock where her parents farmed. At age 12, her father passed away and the family moved into town. Pauline graduated from Turlock High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper and met the love of her life, Donald Baker, a serviceman in the US Air Force.  They married in 1951, had two sons and travelled the world until Don retired in 1972, at which time they settled back in Turlock.

Pauline loved listening to music, gardening, crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles and above all being with her family. She was a Cub Scout den mother, elementary school aid, Sunday school aid and a deacon at the First Presbyterian Churh in Turlock as well as a volunteer at military hospitals, blood banks and the Castle Air Force Museum.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Don, her parents, and her siblings Paul Koelzer, Rose Martin, Barbara Haugh, Catherine Sandifur and Mary Haring. Pauline is survived by her sons Dale (Margie) Baker, Scott Baker; granddaughters Annie (Jason) Papi, Emily (Brett) Schmitz; three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. Remembrances can be made to a Charity of choice or at First Presbyterian Church in Turlock.

When I moved in to Dale Commons, Pauline welcomed me and we became friends immediately. I always enjoyed her company at meals…she was fun to speak to and spend time with. It was an honor and a pleasure to have known her.

  2. Leda Walker says

So sorry to hear of Paulines passing. She will be greatly missed. Pauline was one of my resident’s at Dale Commons and my life is richer just knowing her. I remember the day she offered to adopt me as her daughter cause she only had sons. I would bring her sweet treats, leave her notes or flowers so she would be surprised when she would come back to her apartment. May she rest in peace with God’s eternal love . Love Leda Walker
