Doris Jean Nye passed away peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by family. She was born in Texas to Lewis and Bertha Lawson. She is survived by siblings Vera Myers, Mildred Ring and Lola DeCamp, her children Allen (Freda) Dukes, Linda (Randy) Preusser, Eudora (Frank) Rodabaugh, Syble (Martin) Coonce, Victoria Blackwell and her 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Lawson, and her children Vera Ruff and Roy Thomas Dodd.
Doris loved her children and grandchildren more than anything in the world. She also loved music, having grown up singing in church with her father – a love that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and could make anything grow. She enjoyed games, especially with her family. She was an amazing cook and is known for her world class biscuits and gravy, fried okra, any many other delicious dishes that she made with love.
Doris lived a life full of love and has touched the hearts of everyone she knew. She will live on in the hearts of her family and loved ones, and even as a beloved character in the critically acclaimed novels written by her granddaughter.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11th from 5-7pm at Allen Mortuary.
A Funeral will be held on Friday, May 12th starting at 12:00pm at Allen Mortuary, with interment at Ceres Memorial Park to follow.
