Maria “Mela” Salazar June 13, 1981 - April 19, 2026

Maria “Mela” Salazar was born on June 13, 1981, in Merced, CA. Her parents, Juan Ignacio and Maria Salazar, raised her and her siblings, Rosa Clara, Juan, Olga Lidia, and Alejo.

As a little girl, she was very shy, even running to her room to hide when people came over. But as she grew, her personality changed, and she became the Maria we all grew to love: a crazy, loyal, adventurous, and humorous friend.

Maria was unstoppable, and after graduating from Livingston High School, she attended UC Davis. There, she met her best friend, Ellie Rodriguez. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and was then hired by the USDA, where her most recent title was Enforcement Investigations and Analysis Officer (EIAO). Her job allowed her to travel and meet many new friends, like her Evil Twin, Pisey, who introduced her to food and traveling.

She traveled across the United States and became more adventurous, visiting the Caribbean Islands and finally crossing the ocean to Europe.

Wherever she would go, she would always bring something back to her, “FAVORITE #1s” her nieces and nephews: Alexis, Ailene, Adriana, Victor, Ernesto, and Emanuel.

Her adventures always included a “Partner in a Crime,” one of her beloved cousins: Mario, Mari Carmen, Brenda, Cami, or Vicente “Chente”.

At first sight, she looked standoffish, but when you got to know her, she would give her whole heart to you. As can attain her friend, Rosa (Rochi #1), and her other nieces and nephews: Noah, Levi, Zoe, Melina, Grayson, Enok, Jacob, Isela, and Sandra.

She will be remembered for the laughter she brought into every room, her quick wit, and flair for telling jokes. She cherished her people fiercely, and the love and laughter she shared with them will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
