When Death Occurs

On behalf of the entire Allen Mortuary family, please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one.


A death fills the family with grief, and can immediately disrupt your lives. In addition, there are literally dozens of details that must be considered in order to plan a proper funeral.

At Home Without Hospice Care

When a death occurs at home, a family member or friend should contact emergency personnel (9-1-1). If unsure, please call Allen Mortuary at (209) 634-5829 and we will assist you in notifying the proper agencies.

While Under Supervised Care

When a death occurs in a care facility, their staff will notify you and the necessary authorities. If the name of our funeral home has been left with them, the facility will notify our staff at the time of the death. We are available 24 hours a day and will respond promptly.

If a loved one was in the care of a hospice program, a hospice representative will give family members instructions and procedures to follow. Following their release, hospice will contact Allen Mortuary. It is always a good idea for family to contact us as soon as possible so that we will be aware of the pending call from hospice.

Set An Appointment

Please call us to set up an appointment with one of our caring and compassionate arrangement counselors. Our staff is available 7 days a week and appointments are usually scheduled between 9:00am and 3:00pm. It is advisable to make an appointment so we are prepared for your arrival with proper staffing and resources. We want to make this meeting as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Your Arrangement Counselor

Thinking through so many details and coordinating a service are tasks that can become overwhelming in a time of loss. Your arrangement counselors at Allen Mortuary are here to help deal with all the aspects of your loved one’s death and serve as an advisor, an administrator, a supporter and a friend.

When you visit us, the arrangement counselor will guide you through the entire arrangement process, explaining how you can create a memorable personal celebration of your loved one’s life. The arrangement process may include providing information for the official death certificate; scheduling the location, date and time of services or events; selecting a casket, urn or other items, preparing an obituary notice, scheduling transportation, and selecting casket bearers. You may also sign necessary authorizations or make arrangements to have them signed by the appropriate family members.

We encourage you to determine if your loved one has left any instructions about funeral arrangements he/she may have already made, purchased or prepaid. If time allows, please bring to your appointment any information you may have regarding prepaid or purchased services, such as insurance policies, certificates, etc., and any further wishes your loved one may have documented.

Your submitted information will be imported into our systems, saving you precious time when you arrive for your appointment. You will receive a confirmation email in return, letting you know that your information was successfully received.
