Lois Welch Tischer passed away on August 24, 2022 in Turlock, CA. Lois was born on July 13, 1922 in Oakland, CA to parents Arthur and Clara Manchester. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1939 and married Wiley Welch in 1940.
Oakland was her home until a move on July 4, 1946 to a farm in Ceres, CA. It was a big change from city life to farm life. She became very active in P.T.A., was elected to school boards and served as trustee, and as a cafeteria cook in a small country school, Central Elementary.
Her family sold the farm in 1956 and moved to Turlock, CA, where she worked for Mercantile and J.C. Penney (retail) and at Emanuel Hospital in housekeeping.
Mom was a beautiful seamstress, and also baked and designed beautiful wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends. If you wanted something ironed to perfection, she was the person to go to. She spent many hours crocheting, and taught others that skill. She had a love for teacup sets and Asian-inspired dishes.
Lois is survived by her children Frances Lytle (Paul), Arthur (Bugs) Welch, and Wiley (Pandy) Welch (Darlene), and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Clara Manchester; brother William (Bud) Manchester, daughter-in-law Toni Welch, and her beloved Lhasa Apso Mollie.
Family will privately celebrate her life on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
